Volleyball Shines in 3-0 Defeat of Pacific

Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team put together arguably its best match of the season on Saturday night with a stunning 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-21) win over the Pacific Boxers in Northwest Conference action.

The win moves the Pioneers to 10-9 on the season and 4-6 in conference action. The Boxers, who defeated the Pioneers earlier in the season, fall to 5-13 overall and 1-9 in conference.

The Pioneers put together a well rounded offensive effort, finishing the night with a .320 attacking percentage. Isabel Valentine led all players with a match-high 14 kills, while Brigitte Russo ended her night with 10 kills on 14 attempts for an impressive .714 attacking percentage. Ali Carleton finished with seven kills and senior Kataleya Milan pitched in six. Emily Drake finished with a match-high 23 assists, while Vanessa Hall picked up 11.

Defensively, Alexe Navarro had a match-high 10 digs, while Russo finished with nine and both Milan and Drake each had six. Valentine finished tied with a match-high three blocks, while Milan, Tessa Belanger and Hall each knocked down two.

Haley Bedell, Marie Rewick ad Hannah Herbert each finished with eight kills for the Boxers, while Jamie Steach had a team-high 16 assists.

The Pioneers were ahead 9-3 in the opening set before the Boxers managed to get their offense working. After pulling within three points on a 4-1 run, the Boxers could do little to stop the Pioneers who responded with a strong 9-2 run of their own. A couple Pioneer errors toward the end of the set allowed the Boxers to tighten up the score.

Pacific could do very little to stop the Pioneers in the second set who dominated every aspect of the game. With Drake serving the Pioneers opened on a 15-0 run, which included three service aces. The Boxers rattled off three points before the Pios closed out the set on a 10-4 run.

Despite the score being much closer in the third set, the Pioneers managed to be in control the entire time.

The Pioneers return to the court on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. in McMinnville against Linfield.
