Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. -The Lewis & Clark volleyball team ended its Whit weekend with a 3-1 loss at Whitworth on Saturday night in Northwest Conference action.
The Pioneers fall to 8-9 on the season and 2-6 in conference action, while the Pirates improve to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in conference. The Pirates currently sit in second place in the NWC.
Kataleya Milan led the team with 14 kills, while earning 11 digs and picking up a block. Ali Carleton ended her night with 11 kills, while also picking up a block. Isabel Valentine and Tessa Belangereach knocked down six kills. Belanger and Valentine led the team in blocks with three each.
Nicole Leonard ended the night with a match-high 18 kills for the Pirates while Cassandra Mendoza knocked down 13 and Breena Bruil picked up 11.
Whitworth captured the first point of the match, but quickly fell behind to the Pioneers in the first set. The Pioneers earned a 2-1 lead on an Emily Drake ace and never looked back.
The second set was an intense battle that saw the teams trade points. With the set deadlocked at 19-19, the Pirates took over pulling out the win.
Whitworth led the way the entire third set. The fourth was a back and forth with the Pirates finding a way to pull out the win.
The team returns to action on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Willamette.
