Volleyball Opens NWC Play With 3-1 Loss to Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team opened Northwest Conference action Friday night at Whitman College. The Missionaries pulled out a 3-1 (28-26, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16) win over the Pioneers at the Sherwood Center.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in NWC action. The Missionaries improve to 3-11 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Juniors Kataleya Milan and Brigitte Russo led the Pioneer offense with 14 kills each, Russo ended the night with a team-high .312 attacking percentage. Senior Kelsie Dorpat finished with 35 assists for L&C, while freshman Alexe Navarro paced the defense with 18 digs. Isabel Valentine led Pioneers with five block assists, while Dorpat contributed four block assists.

Jillian Davis led all players with 16 kills, while Rachel Cline earned 15 kills and Megan Bafus added 14 for the Missionaries. Madeline Bell led all players with six block assists, while Cline earned four block assists and one block solo.

The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 5 p.m. in Spokane, Wash. against Whitworth.
