PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark Softball team dropped both of its games to the Whitworth Pirates today at Huston Sports Complex, losing the first 15-5 and the second 10-0.
The Pioneers' record falls to 11-17 overall, and 6-14 in Northwest Conference (NWC) play. The Pirates improve to 15-11 overall, and 12-8 in NWC play.
In the first game, the Pirates started off the game with two runs in the first inning, which were countered by one run from Lewis & Clark in the bottom of the first. Haley Robinson singled to first, before advancing to second on a wild pitch, then moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Buck. Robinson made her way home after another wild pitch.
The Pioneers scored another run in the second inning, with Amanda Rabith homering to left center field. Lewis & Clark scored the rest of its runs in the bottom of the sixth, with Natalie Rose coming in to pinch hit, singling to center field, then being replaced by Jet'aime Mullins to pinch run. Rabith then singled, advancing Mullins to second. Lauren Lovato then singled and advanced on the thrwo, bringing in Mullins. Kataleya Milan brought in Rabith, and Madison Hollenbeck rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers, bringing in Lovato.
Jill Pinder started and finished the game for the Pioneers, while Hollenbeck came in to pitch the middle four innings. Lewis & Clark ended with eight hits, two apiece for Robinson, Lovato, and Rabith.
In the second game, the Pioneers were unable to plate a run, despite four hits coming from Robinson, Buck, Hannah Dal Pra, and Hollenbeck.
Rose pitched one and a half innings for the Pioneers, before being relieved by Hallie Knife, who pitched three and a half innings.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, March 27th, when they face Northwest on the road.
