Softball Comes from Behind to Take Both Games Against Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team won two straight games against its conference opponent the Willamette Bearcats today, to maintain their place at the top of the Northwest Conference (NWC). The Pioneers won the first game 8-5, then followed up by winning the second game 3-2.

Lewis & Clark's record improves to 10-4 overall, and 5-1 NWC play. The Bearcats fall to 3-7 overall, 3-3 in NWC play.

In the first game, Willamette got a quick lead, scoring three runs in the first two innings. Lewis & Clark came back in the third inning, scoring two runs, with Amanda Rabith homering to bring in Jet'aime Mullins.

In the fourth inning, the Pioneers took the lead with two more runs, Caitlin McCormick coming in from an error by the Bearcats pitcher. Megan Andre then came in from a single to left field by Kelsey Buck.

The Pioneers cemented their lead in the sixth inning, scoring four runs. As a pinch hitter, Natalie Rose singled through the left side, gaining an RBI, bringing in McCormick. A fielding error brought in Kataleya Milan, then Rabith doubled to bring in Buck and Hannah Dal Pra.

The Bearcats tried to come back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but could not catch the Pioneers.

Madison Hollenbeck pitched a complete game for the Pioneers, getting the win and throwing three strike outs in seven innings.

In the second game, Willamette again took the lead, with a run in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Caitlin McCormick scored the winning runs for the Pioneers, homering in the sixth inning to left field to bring in Rabith and Dal Pra.

Jill Pinder pitched a complete second game for the Pioneers, only allowing three hits in her seven innings at the mound.

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow, March 3rd, as they take on the Linfield Bearcats at 12 and 2 p.m. at the Huston Sports Complex.
