PORTLAND, Ore. - Despite being evenly matched with the Willamette Bearcats on Wednesday night, the Lewis & Clark volleyball team could not get things to go its way falling 3-0 in Northwest Conference action. The Bearcats won the match 25-21, 25-16, 25-22.
The Pioneers slip to 5-14 on the season and 4-9 in NWC play with three matches remaining. The Bearcats improve to 9-13 overall and 5-8 in conference action.
Lewis & Clark found its groove early in the third set, but were unable to maintain the pressure allowing Willamette to come from down in the set to take the match. Junior Kataleya Milan led the way with a team-high 12 kills for L&C, while Brigitte Russo chipped in 10 kills for a .259 attacking percentage. Kelsie Dorpat was all over the court of Lewis & Clark picking up 32 assists.
Defensively, Alexe Navarro collected 20 digs for the Pioneers, while Milan and Dorpat each earned eight. Freshman Tessa Belanger was strong at the net for the Pioneers knocking down four blocks. Milan, Alicia Callejo-Black and Kayla Ernewein each finished the match with two blocks.
Sarah Fincher led all players with 16 kills for Willamette, while teammates Lindsey Compton and Shannon Waltz each had 11.
Lewis & Clark takes the court again on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. against George Fox in Newberg.
