PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team defeated the Whitworth Pirates for the second time this season in an exciting Northwest Conference match-up. The Pioneers earned a slim 25-23 win in the opening set before dropping the next two 22-25 and 17-25. Lewis & Clark rallied to win the final two sets 25-23 and 15-13.
The Pioneers improve to 5-11 on the season and 4-6 in NWC action with the victory. The Pirates fall to 12-10 overall and 6-4 in conference play.
Junior Brigitte Russo was a force for the Pioneers on the offensive side, ending the night with a team-high 18 kills and .293 attacking percentage. Outside hitter Kataleya Milan chipped in 14 kills in the win, while Kayla Ernewein had seven and Alicia Callejo-Black and Tessa Belanger each knocked down six.
Senior Kelsey Dorpat had another strong night for the Pioneers, finishing with 47 assists, nine digs, three blocks and two kills. Dorpat also ended the night with two service aces, including the match winning point. Belanger led the Pioneers with five blocks, while Ernewein knocked down four. Freshman Alexe Navarro had 36 digs in the win and Milan finished with 20.
Jalana White led all players with 21 kills, while teammate Maddye Dinsmore had a match-high 52 assists. Briauna Stadell earned a match-high seven blocks for the Pirates.
Lewis & Clark returns to the court on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Puget Sound.
