OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team hit the road for its second tournament of the season, taking on Camosun on day one of the Evergreen State Invitational. The Pioneers started off strong with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-9, 20-25, 25-18) win over the Chargers.
The win improves the Pioneers to 3-3 overall, while the Chargers drop their opening match of the season.
Lewis & Clark were dominant in the first two sets of the contest, hitting .353 in each set. Jennifer Dowdy was again the Pioneers leader on offense, recording 12 kills, while Brigitte Russo picked up six kills in her first match of the season. Kelsie Dorpat also contributed offensively with five kills and 19 assists.
Defensively for the Pioneers, Alicia Callejo-Black was strong at the net blocking the Chargers four times (one solo/three assisted). Kayla Ernewein picked up two block solos for Lewis & Clark, while Dowdy assisted on two blocks.
Carly Hilliard led the Chargers attack with 10 kills, while teammates Hilary Graham and Erika Morris each had seven.
The Pios take on Northwest University at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7 in their second game of the Evergreen State Invitational.
