NEWBERG, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team opened Northwest Conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 against the George Fox Bruins. The Bruins defeated the Pioneers 3-1 (27-25, 25-10, 26-24, 28-26) on their home court.
The Pioneers fall to 4-6 on the season and 0-1 in NWC action, while George Fox improves to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in conference.
Kataleya Milan finished the night with a match-high 17 kills, while Jennifer Dowdy knocked down 13 for Lewis & Clark. Freshman Daniela de Kervor was strong from behind the line for the Pioneers, earning four aces.
Alicia Callejo-Black once again led the Pioneers from the net, knocking down three blocks (two solo/one assist). Kayla Ernewein finished her night with two blocks, while Dowdy and Alexi Provost-Shean each had one.
Lucy Capron paced the Bruins with 16 kills, while Erin Campbell finished with 10. Kylee Adderson had three aces for the Bruins. Tiffany Burk concluded her night with a match-high seven blocks (two solo/five assist) for George Fox.
The Pioneers put together a hard fought comeback in the first set after trailing the Bruins 17-9 at one point. Let by a strong serving set from Dowdy, the Pioneers pulled within three. An ace by de Kervor tied the contest at 24-24. The Pioneer put the set away with back-to-back kills, one from Dowdy and the final from Ernewein.
Lewis & Clark wasn't so lucky in the second set with the Bruins running the show from start to finish. The third set was a see saw battle the whole time but George Fox managed to pull out the win on consecutive errors by the Pios.
The Pios trailed for a bit in the fourth set, but pulled even with the Bruins at 24-24 courtesy of a string of points on de Kervor's serves. Errors once again cost the Pios the set as well as the match.
The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. when they travel to take on the Linfield Wildcats.
