PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team picked up a 4-0 win over Puget Sound on Friday afternoon in Northwest Conference play. The Loggers defeated the Pioneers 10-5 in the first game of the double-header, but the Pioneers bounced back to win game two.
Puget Sound captured a 7-0 lead through the first two innings before the Pioneers could get on the board. Moriah Lane helped the Pioneers plate their first run of the game with a sacrifice fly to center field that brought in Caroline DeVincenzi.
Lewis & Clark pulled within two runs in the bottom of the fourth on four hits. With two outs and the bases loaded, DeVincenzi singled to the shortstop allowing Amanda Rabith to score. Rabith led off the inning with a single up the middle. The Loggers gave the Pioneers their next run hitting senior Caitlin Relyea, which allowed Taylor Gatti to casually come home. Lane brought in the final two runs of the inning with a hard hit single down the right line, scoring DeVincenzi and Kelsey Buck.
The Loggers put up a single run in the final three innings of the contest.
DeVincenzi ended the game 1-for-2 while walking twice. Relyea finished 2-for-3, while Rabith was 2-for-4.
The Pioneers were in full control of game two, only allowing the Loggers four hits.
Pitcher Madison Hollenbeck helped her own cause in the first inning with a two RBI single to left center that brought in Relyea and junior Jet'aime Mullins.
Mullins extended the Pioneers lead in the fifth inning with a solo homerun over the right field fence. Lane rounded out the scoring after reaching on an error that allowed Buck to come home.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 7 at 12 p.m. when they host Pacific Lutheran.
