Game One
Game Two
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team dropped its final double-header of the season, falling to Pacific 3-2 and 6-5 (nine innings) on Sunday in Northwest Conference action.
Prior to the start of the contest the Pioneers honored their two graduating seniors, Caroline DeVincenzi and Caitlin Relyea, for their contributions to the team during their four years.
The Pioneers two runs came from solo homeruns over the center field fence by Jet'aime Mullins and freshman Moriah Lane.
Like the Pioneers, the Boxers scored all of their runs off of homeruns. Pacific struck first with a two-run homerun in the third, followed by a solo homerun in the sixth.
The Pioneers opened game two with a strong first inning, plating four runs on four hits and taking advantage of a Boxer error.
Mullins led-off the game with a single through the left side and advanced to second on a Kelsey Buck single the opposite way. Another Pioneer single, this time by DeVincenzi, allowed Mullins to come in and score, while placing Buck at third. Relyea continued the momentum, reaching on an error by the Boxer shortstop, which allowed Buck to score.
With runners at the corners, Moriah Lane grounded out to the second baseman, picking up an RBI as DeVincenzi came rushing home. The scoring ended for the Pios with a foul out by Amanda Rabith that brought in Relyea.
Pacific responded with a four run inning of its own in the third. Like the Pioneers, the inning began with a single by the lead-off batter. Randee Layosa was the first Boxer to score after a single through the right side by Chelsey Chamberlain. A wild pitch allowed the next runner to score, before Kaitlyn Shikada doubled to right center knocking in the final two runs of the inning.
The Boxers took their first lead of the contest in the sixth inning with a double to right field by Becca Moen that scored Shikada. Lewis & Clark responded in the bottom half of the inning with a Mullins double that brought in Lauren Lovato. Lovato came in to pinch run for Ariel Wilks earlier in the inning after Wilks reached base on a single through the right side.
The two sides only managed one hit between themselves in the seventh inning, sending the Pios into their second extra inning game of the season.
Pacific did not get anything going in the eighth, while Lewis & Clark put a runner in scoring position but could not bring her in.
The Boxers managed to bring in what proved to be the game winning run in the ninth with a single through the left side by Ashley Billingsley that scored Chamberlain. The Pioneers fought to earn the run back in the bottom half of the ninth but would be unable to get a runner past second base.
