GAME TWO
SALEM, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team fell to the Willamette Bearcats on Sunday afternoon in a Northwest Conference double header. The Pioneers kept things close in game one, falling 3-1, before dropping the second game 11-0 after five innings.
After a scoreless inning and a half, the Bearcats struck first, plating a run in the bottom of the second inning. Lewis & Clark countered in the top of the next inning with senior Caroline DeVincenzi coming around to score on an RBI single by Amanda Rabith. DeVincenzi put herself in scoring position with a double and then stole third before Rabith knocked her in.
Willamette once again captured the lead with a run in the bottom half of the third off a Pioneer error. The Bearcats capped off the scoring in the fourth with another run.
Lewis & Clark only managed two hits in the second game of the double header, with Kelsey Buck and Sarah Breninger each getting one. It was a rough first inning for the Pioneers with all 11 of the Bearcats coming at the start of the contest.
Trying to dig out a big hole, the Pioneer bats were unable to get anything going.
The Pioneers return home for their next contest, hosting the George Fox Bruins in a conference double header on Saturday, March 10 starting at 12 p.m.
