PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team dropped both its Northwest Conference double-header makeup games against the George Fox Bruins on Friday afternoon. The Bruins won game one 5-1 before defeating the Pioneers 10-0 after six innings.
In game one, it took until the fourth inning for either team to plate a run, with the Bruins striking first. A two-run homerun over the fence in right field from Felicia Chavez put the Bruins ahead 2-0. The Pioneers responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from senior Caitlin Relyea. The Relyea single scored Taylor Gatti, who led off the inning with a single up the middle.
George Fox then countered with a three run fifth inning, starting with an RBI single to left from Genetta Bennett. Kerrianne Davidson followed her lead with a double down the left field line that scored Mckynna Towery. The scoring was finished with aNicole Renteria single to left that brought in another run.
The Pioneers would not be able to earn the runs back during their three remaining at bats.Gatti, Relyea, Kelsey Buck Caitlin McCormick and Caitlin Basilio all finished the game 1-for-3 from the plate.
Game two was close throughout much of the contest, until a six run sixth inning sealed the game for the Bruins.
George Fox scored two runs in the third inning on a two RBI foul out, that plated one run on a tagup and another on a throwing error. Back-to-back doubles in the top of the fifth scored another Bruin run. The Bruin half of the fifth inning ended with another run scoring on a an RBI groundout by Kirsten Ankeny.
The sixth inning ended the game for Lewis & Clark, with the Bruins scoring a run on a bases loaded single, followed by a run being walked in. Davidson then hit a grandslam, scoring four more Bruins.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. when they take on St. Martin's in non-conference action.
