Game One
Game Two
McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team dropped game one of its Northwest Conference double-header to reigning national champions Linfield College on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats earned an 11-2 win after five innings before winning game two 8-0 after five.
Down 11-0 heading into the fourth inning, the Pioneer offense finally got something going after three consecutive three out innings. With two out, senior Caroline DeVincenzi stepped up for the Pioneers, earning the teams first hit of the game with a triple down the left field line. Freshman first baseman Moriah Lane then made her way to the plate, cracking her second homerun of the season, cutting the Pios deficit to 11-2.
The Pioneers sat the Wildcats down in the bottom half of the inning, giving themselves one more chance to fight their way into the contest. Senior Caitlin Relyea led off the fifth inning with a double to right center, immediately giving the team a runner in scoring position. That would be the best opportunity the Pioneers would get in the inning with the Wildcats retiring the next three batters.
Game two was all Linfield with the Wildcats scoring in every inning but the fourth. Lewis & Clark could not get its offense going with the team finishing without a hit.
The team returns to action on Friday, March 23 at 1 p.m. when they take on George Fox in their rescheduled double-header.
