TACOMA, Wash. The Lewis & Clark softball team fell in both games to the Pacific Lutheran Lutes this afternoon in their first games of conference play. The Pioneers fall to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in the NWC. The Lutes improve to 4-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.
In game one Lewis & Clark fell 10-0 and in game two 11-3.
Pacific Lutheran managed to dominate offensively in game one scoring their first two runs in the bottom of the first. Kaaren Hatlen earned a homerun, bringing in Stacey Hagensen to score and earning two RBI's. In the bottom of the second, Glenelle Nitta scored off of a fielders choice from Lindsey Matsunaga. Amanda Goings scored after Hatlen was hit by a pitch and Haley Harshaw came in from a walk.
Scoring their final five runs in the third, the Lutes ended the game 10-0.
Game two earned three runs for the Pioneers. Jet'aime Mullins earned two runs and Moriah Lane earned one. Mullins earned her first run in the top of the second off of a single from Caitlin McCormick. Her second came in the fourth off of another single from McCormick. Lane also earned her run in the fourth, coming in off of a single from Sarah Breninger.
Despite their loss, the Pioneers improved in game two, earning seven hits. Madison Hollenbeck, Natalie Rose and Hallie Knife pitched for Lewis & Clark.
The Pioneers are back on the field Sunday, Feb. 26 at Puget Sound. Games are at 12 and 2 pm.
