SALEM, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team could not overcome Willamette on Sunday afternoon, falling twice to hand the Bearcats the four game sweep. Willamette defeated the Pios 8-5 in game one before taking the second game 9-2.

The Pioneers are now 7-20 on the season and 1-15 in Northwest Conference action. The Bearcats improve to 13-12 overall and 10-7 in conference play.

The Pioneers were the first to score in the first game of the day, platting five runs in the top of the first inning. The inning began with Jamie Moon leading off with a single up the middle. Moon would eventually come around to score on a fielder's choice by junior Caitlin Relyea. A bases loaded walk brought in Caitlin Basilio, who reached base on a single down the right field line. Sarah Breninger brought in the next Pio run with a single to left. Things fell apart for the Bearcats with the next Pio at bat, as Molly Donahue reached on a fielder's choice, bringing in Jet'aime Mullins and allowing Relyea to score on an error by the third baseman.

The Bearcats earned two runs back in the bottom of the first and eventually tied the contest at 5-5 in the fifth inning. Willamette broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth, plating three runs to win 8-5.

Willamette struck first in game two, scoring a run in both the third and fourth innings. Lewis & Clark pulled even with two runs in the top of the fifth with Moon and Mari McClenahan scoring.

The Bearcats took the lead for good by tallying four runs in the bottom of the inning, before scoring three more in the sixth.

The Pioneers return to action on April 7 when they take on the Linfield Wildcats.
