Softball Opens Spring Break With Two Wins

TUCSON, Ariz. - Spring Break got off to a great start for the Lewis & Clark softball team as the Pioneers picked up two wins. The Pioneers took down St. Catherine 15-0 after five innings in their first game of the day and followed it up with a 9-1 win over Calvin in six innings.

Against St. Catherine, a huge second inning put the Pioneers up 14-0, quickly deflating their opponent. The Pioneers ended their scoring in the bottom half of the fifth inning, scoring their final run of the contest.

Lewis & Clark finished the game with 10 hits and no errors, while sophomore Natalie Rose held St. Catherine's to just three hits. Rose picked up the complete game victory for the Pioneers.

Senior Michaela Satter finished the game 2-for-4 from the plate, which included a double. Satter also knocked in three runs for the Pios. Molly Donahue was 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI. Junior Caitlin Relyea was also 2-for-3 from the plate with a double and three RBI.

Despite being walked three times, Caroline DeVincenzi earned two RBI for the Pios. Jamie Moon, Sarah Breninger and Taylor Gatti also picked up RBI's for the Pios.

The Pioneers followed up their performance against St. Catherine's with an equally impressive showing against Calvin. The Pioneers scored nine runs on 10 hits.

Lewis & Clark scored its first runs of the contest in the second inning, taking an early 2-0 advantage. Another run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth put the Pios ahead 5-0 before Calvin earned one back in the top of the sixth.

With a 5-1 advantage heading into the bottom half of the sixth, the Pioneers plated four more runs to end the contest 9-1.

Jet'aime Mullins hit her team-leading fourth homerun of the season during the contest. Mullins ended the game 2-for-3 with two RBI. Moon was 2-for-3 picking up another RBI, while Donahue was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double.

The Pioneers return to action in Tucson on Tuesday, March 22 at 11 a.m. when they face Otterbein University. They will then take on Carleton at 3:30 p.m.
