TACOMA, Wash. - Sophomore Jet'aime Mullins hit her first career grand slam on Friday afternoon in game two of the Lewis & Clark softball team's make-up games against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes. Despite the homerun, the Pioneers were unable to overcome the Lutes in a Northwest Conference double-header, falling 10-1 in game one and 6-4 in the second.

The Pioneers slip to 2-10 on the season and 0-6 in conference play. The Lutes improve to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the NWC.

Mullins played a role in the Pioneers lone run in the first game, picking up an RBI with a single that brought in freshman Caitlin Basilio. The Pioneer run, which came in the fourth inning, was a little too late, as the Lutes had already accumulated a seven run lead. PLU added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to end the scoring.

The second game started out with the Pioneers finding the gaps in the first inning, starting with a Basilio single up the middle. Junior Caroline DeVincenzi followed suit with a single to right center, before Caitlin Relyea loaded the bases with a single up the middle. Mullins cleared the bases with the next Pioneers at bat with a hard hit shot over the fence in center.

The Lute pitchers settled down after the first inning, holding the Pios scoreless through the remainder of the contest. Pacific Lutheran's offense slowly began to chip away at the Pioneer lead eventually taking a 6-4 advantage in the fifth inning.

Lewis & Clark returns to the Huston Sports Complex for its next contest, hosting the Whitworth Pirates on Saturday, March 12 at noon.
