NEWBURG, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark women's basketball team had its 12 game winning-streak ended on Saturday night on the road against the George Fox Bruins, falling 77-58 in the Wheeler Sports Center.
The Pioneers fall to 16-5 on the season and 10-2 in Northwest Conference action. The loss puts the Pioneers in a three-way tie for first place in the NWC with both the Bruins and the Puget Sound Loggers. The Bruins improve to 16-5 on the season and 10-2 in conference.
Senior Christina Herring led the Pioneers in points with 14, while Kristina Williams scored 13 and Megan Spence 12. Junior Neva Hauser also ended the night in double-digits with 10 points. Hauser led the team in rebounding with eight boards, while Williams grabbed seven.
The Bruins were led by double-doubles from Keisha Gordon and Hannah Munger. Gordon scored a game-high 19 points and collected 11 boards for the Bruins. Munger came down with a game-high 13 rebounds and contributed 15 points.
The Bruins scored first four points of the game, but the Pioneers mounted a comeback with a 7-0 run led by Williams. The 5-9 sophomore hit a jumper and made two-free throws during the run to give her team their first lead of the game. George Fox quickly tied the game with 12:13 remaining in the half. The two sides would tie the contest up three more times over the following six minutes before Spence put the Pios up 18-16 with 6:20 to go. The layup by Spence would spark a 13-4 Pioneer run to put her team up 29-20 with two minutes till halftime. The Bruins would earn back a couple points before heading into the locker room down 31-28.
George Fox scored first in the second half going on to take a slim 36-35 lead with 17:12 on the clock. The Bruins would not trail the rest of the game.
Lewis & Clark returns to action on Friday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. when they host the Pacific Boxers.
