Game Two - Concordia
CLACKAMAS, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team opened the Northwest Cup hosted by Concordia (Ore.) on Saturday afternoon in Clackamas. The Pioneers fell 8-0 to Oregon Tech in their first game of the day, before slipping to Concordia 7-6.
Junior Kristin Breninger took the loss in Oregon Tech game after pitching 3.2 innings, striking out three. Offensively, Breninger ended the day 1-for-1, while Jet'aime Mullins finished 1-for-2.
Lewis & Clark bounced back in the second game, jumping out to a 3-1 advantage after the first inning. Junior Caroline DeVincenzi scored the Pioneers first two runs of the game, hitting a two-run homerun to left center, also scoring Taylor Gatti. Mullins tacked on the teams third run of the first inning, reaching base on a single down the left field line, and then coming around to score on a Sarah Breninger RBI single up the middle.
Concordia responded with a run in the bottom half to make the game 3-1. The Pioneers fired back in the top of the second with a two RBI single by Mullins. Gatti and senior Jamie Moon came around to score on the Mullins single, while DeVincenzi moved into scoring position. DeVincenzi came around to score moments later on another Sarah Breninger single.
Down 6-1, Concordia mounted a strong comeback, scoring six runs to take down the Pioneers. The Cavaliers scored five combined runs in the third and fourth innings before tacking on the winning run in the bottom of the sixth.
The Pioneers return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on College of Idaho at 1 p.m. and then Northwest Christian at 3 p.m.
