MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball team put up a fight against the Linfield Wildcats on Friday night in a Northwest Conference match-up but were unable to hold on falling 3-1.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Wildcats improve to an even 7-7 on the season and 2-3 in the NWC.
Linfield collected a quick 25-17 win in the first set to take an early 1-0 advantage. The Pioneers returned the favor in the second set, collecting a 12-5 lead that the Wildcats could never overcome. Lewis & Clark dominated the entire second set, earning a convincing 25-15 win.
In the third set, the two sides fought for every point with neither team earning more than a two point advantage throughout most of the set. Linfield eventually went on to capture a 25-22 win.
The Wildcats ended the match in the fourth set with another 25-17 win.
Junior Jennifer Dowdy and freshman Kataleya Milan led the Pioneers with a team-high 10 kills, while Leia Matsunaga dished out 21 assists.
Kailana Ritte-Camera led everyone in kills with 18, while Samantha Lau came up with 19 digs.
Lewis & Clark returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. when they host Willamette.
