PORTLAND, Ore. – In its first conference
game since Dec. 4, the Lewis & Clark women's basketball
team put together an all around team effort in its 58-53 win over
the Linfield Wildcats on Tuesday night in the Pamplin Sports
Complex.
The win gives the Pios a four game winning streak, while helping
them improve to 8-4 on the season and 2-1 in Northwest Conference
action. The Wildcats fall to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in conference
play.
The Pioneers were paced by a double-double by junior Megan
Spence, who finished the night with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Neva
Hauser finished the game with a team-high 13 points, while
sophomore Kristina Williams scored 12.
Gretchen Owens ended with a game-high 14 points for the
Wildcats, while also pulling down six rebounds. Micha Pringle
scored 13 points for Linfield.
Lewis & Clark controlled much of the first half, building up
a nine point advantage with 12:56 remaining in the period. Linfield
refused to go down without a fight, chipping away at the Pioneers
lead as time slipped away. A layup right before halftime gave the
Wildcats their first lead of the contest.
The second half was a back and forth with seven lead changes.
The Wildcats held a lead 53-51 with 4:13 remaining in the contest
after made free-throws, but those would prove to be the final
points the Pioneers would allow them to score. Lewis & Clark
would go on to hold Linfield scoreless over the remaining four
minutes of action, going on a 7-0 run.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. when
they host the George Fox Bruins.
