GAME TWO
NEWBERG, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
softball team ended its 2009-10 season on Sunday afternoon with a
pair of Northwest Conference losses to the George Fox Bruins on
Sunday afternoon at Morse Field in Newberg. The Bruins earned a 3-2
win in the first game, before collecting a 10-6 victory in the
second.
The Pioneers end the season 3-26 overall and 0-28 in conference
play.
In the first game, the Pioneers opened the scoring, putting two
runs on the board in the fifth inning. Jet'aime Mullins
doubled to start the inning and scored on a Bruins error on a Jamie
Moon grounder. Moon moved herself into scoring position by stealing
second and followed that up with a trip to third on a passed ball.
She came around to score moments later on a sacrifice fly by
Caroline DeVincenzi.
The Bruins rallied in the sixth inning, scoring three runs to
take a one run, 3-2, lead. The Pioneers tried to rally themselves
in the seventh, beginning with a leadoff single by Moon, but would
be unable to make up the deficit.
In the second game, the Bruins jumped out to a large lead early,
scoring five runs in the first inning. George Fox added another run
in the bottom of the second, before plating three more in the
third. The teams final run came in the fourth inning on a
bases-loaded sac fly.
The Pioneers scored their first run in the third inning on
doubles by Kristin Breninger and Moon, and two more in the fourth
on RBI singles by Sara Standish and Jet'aime Mullins.
Michaela Satter and Paige McFeeley both hit singles in the sixth
inning, with Satter coming around to score to cut the Bruins lead
to 10-4. With the bases loaded, DeVincenzi hit a two-run single to
score the Pioneers final two runs.
Just like the first game, the Pioneers would put together a
solid seventh inning, but would be unable to plate a run handing
the Bruins the win.
