GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball
team fell in back-to-back games to the Linfield Wildcats on
Wednesday afternoon at the Huston Sports Complex in a Northwest
Conference double-header. The Wildcats earned a 12-2 win in the
first game, before defeating the Pioneers 14-3 in game two.
In game one, the Wildcats had accumulated a 10-0 advantage
through four innings of action before the Pioneers were able to put
anything on the scoreboard. Jessica Mullins began the scoring for
the Pioneers, hammering her team-leading fifth home run of the
season over the fence in left center. With the home run, Mullins
also picked up junior Michaela Satter from second base, cutting the
Wildcat lead to 10-2.
The Wildcats earned the two runs back in the top of the
following inning for a 12-2 lead. The Pioneers were unable to get
anything going in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the
Wildcats the victory after five complete innings.
The Pioneer bats got going early in the second game, jumping all
over the Linfield pitcher and making solid contact. Down by two
runs heading into the bottom of the first inning, the first three
Pioneer batters made their way onto base before Jaimie Moon came
around to score on a wild pitch.
Linfield extended its lead back to two runs in the top of the
second inning, plating another run for a 3-1 advantage. A home run,
a wild pitch and a single to left field in the top of the third
inning allowed the Wildcats to pick up three more runs for a 6-1
lead.
Jess Mullins picked up her third and fourth RBIs of the day in
the bottom of the third inning with a single to right center. The
Mullins single brought Satter and Caroline DeVincenzi in to score
to cut the Wildcat lead to 6-3.
The Wildcats would bunker down throughout the final four
innings, allowing the Pioneers just two hits, while piling on eight
unanswered runs for the 14-3 win.
The Pioneers return to the field on Saturday, April 17 when they
take on the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.
