GAME ONE
GAME TWO
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Lewis & Clark softball
team dropped two Northwest Conference games to the Whitworth
Pirates on Sunday afternoon at Marks Field. The Pirates earned a
9-1 victory in game one, before picking up a 7-5 win in the second
game.
The Pioneers are now 3-26 on the season and 0-18 in NWC action.
The Pirates improve to 15-12 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
Whitworth earned an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first
inning, but the Pioneers cut the Pirate lead in half with a run of
their own in the top of the third. Junior Michaela Satter knocked
in the Pio run in the top of the third inning, singling to right
field, allowing Jaimie Moon to score from third. Moon reached base
on a fielder's choice before moving to second on a stolen
base. Moon then proceeded to third base on a pass ball.
The Pirate offense responded with seven runs in the following
four innings of action to earn the 9-1 win after six innings.
The second game saw the Pirates jump out to another early lead,
this time scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The
Pioneers remained composed and slowly began chipping away at the
Whitworth lead, beginning with a lone run in the top of the third.
Caroline DeVincenzi picked up the RBI for the Pioneers run in the
third inning, scoring Megan Andre with a single to left field.
The Pirates earned the run back in the bottom of the inning to
retain a five run advantage. The Pioneers cut the lead to 6-3 in
the top of the fourth inning, with Andre bringing in Jessica
Mullins on a ground out to the shortstop. Freshman Jet'aime
Mullins picked up an RBI of her own moments later, scoring Satter
on a double up the middle.
Whitworth earned one of the two runs back in the bottom of the
fourth to make the score 7-3. Satter made things 7-4 in the fifth
inning with an RBI single to right field that brought sophomore
Caitlin Relyea in to score.
The Pioneer offense kept things going into the sixth inning,
with DeVincenzi scoring Jet'aime Mullins with a single to
left field to pull the Pios within two runs. That would be as close
as the Pioneers would get to the Pirates, handing the home team a
7-5 victory.
The Pioneers return to the field on Thursday, April 14 at 2:30
p.m. at the Huston Sports Complex as they host the Linfield
Wildcats in a double-header.
