GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
softball team dropped a pair of Northwest Conference contests to
the Pacific Boxers on Thursday evening at the Huston Sports
Complex. Playing as the home team, the Boxers earned a 13-4 win in
the first game of the evening, before capturing a 4-2 victory in
the nightcap.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-21 on the season and 0-13 in
NWC action. The Boxers are now 14-10 overall and 9-3 in conference
play.
In game one, the Pioneers earned two runs in the top of the
first inning. The first run came in after Jaimie Moon reached base
with a lead off walk and found her way around the bases, first by
stealing second and then moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Michaela Satter. Moon came home on a Pacific pitching mistake, as
Chelsey Chamberlain threw the ball away, allowing Moon to hustle
home untouched. Sophomore Caroline DeVincenzi scored the second run
of the inning with a solo shot over the left field fence.
The Boxers answered back in their half of the inning, scoring
four runs on four hits. They then went on to score six runs in the
next two innings, which included a five run second inning, taking a
10-2 advantage through three complete innings.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Pioneers earned two runs
back, cutting the Boxer lead to 10-4 on a two-run home run by
Satter. Satter's home run found its way over the left field wall,
picking up Moon who had previously reached base on another lead-off
walk.
Pacific loaded the bases a couple times in the bottom of the
fifth inning, eventually going on to plate three runs to seal the
win. Jordan Middledorf brought in two of the runs, singling down
the right field line.
The nightcap began with the Boxers putting up four runs in the
first two innings. Three of the Pacific runs came in the bottom of
the first inning, with Chamberlain getting the scoring started with
a two RBI single to center field. Chamberlain would come around to
score moments later on another Boxer single.
The Pioneers cut the Boxer lead in half in the top of the fifth
inning, putting together an all around offensive assault. With the
bases loaded, the Boxers once again helped the Pioneers out, with
the pitcher throwing a wild pitch that allowed Moon slide into
home. Danielle Blechert knocked in the other Pioneer run, finding
the gap in center field, allowing Satter to score from third.
Down 4-2, the Pioneers fought to come from behind through the
next two innings, but would be unable to find any chinks in the
Boxers armor.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, April 3 at noon when
they host the Linfield Wildcats in a NWC double-header.
