GAME ONE
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball
team not only had to battle the Willamette Bearcats on Sunday
afternoon at the Huston Sports Complex, but also the rain as the
Bearcats earned a 15-1 victory in game one of the Northwest
Conference double-header. The second game of the day was postponed
in the top of the second inning due to rain, with the Bearcats
leading 3-1. A make up day for the completion of game two has yet
to be decided, however the game will pick up where it was halted.
With the loss the Pioneers fall to 3-19 on the season and 0-11
in the NWC. The Bearcats, ranked 18th in the nation, are now 18-5
overall and 10-1 in conference play.
In game one, Willamette posted all 15 of their runs in the first
four innings, while keeping the Pioneers scoreless until the fifth
inning. With the game on the line in the bottom of the fifth
inning, the Pioneers posted their lone run of the game with Gabby
Castro crossing the plate. Castro's trip home began with the
Bearcat pitcher hitting Castro, the leadoff batter, giving her a
free ride to first. Jet'amie Mullins moved Castro to second base
with a ground out to first base. Junior Sara Standish found a hole
in in right center, knocking Castro home with an RBI single.
The Pioneers are scheduled to return to the field on Friday,
April 2 at 4 p.m. when they head to Forest Grove to take on the
Pacific Boxers.
