GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Lewis & Clark softball team dropped two
Northwest Conference games to the Pacific Lutheran Lutes on Sunday
afternoon at the Houston Sports Complex. The Lutes earned a 10-0
win in the first game, before picking up a 12-5 win in the
nightcap.
The
Pioneers are still in search of their first win of the season,
falling to 0-15 on the season and 0-8 in NWC action. The Lutes are
now 9-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
The
Pioneers struggled to get their bats going in the first game,
coming up with just two hits to the Lutes 13. Jaimie Moon and
Jet'aime Mullins earned the Pios two hits in game one.
Game two
went slightly better for the Pioneers, who picked up nine hits,
while scoring five runs. The Lutes scored a run in the top of the
first inning, but the Pios were able to answer back with a run of
their own in the bottom of the second. Sara Standish put the
Pioneers on the board with an RBI single to right field that
brought Danielle Blechert in to score.
The Lutes
piled on nine more runs to take a 10-1 advantage into the bottom of
the sixth inning. The Pioneers earned three runs back in the bottom
half of the sixth inning, taking advantage of some Lute pitching
issues and clutch hits. The inning began with a Blechert single,
followed by a Jessica Mullins double up the middle. The Lutes
loaded the bases with the next Pio batter, hitting Caitlin Relyea
with a pitch. Blechert came in to score soon after, when
Jet'aime Mullins was walked. Another Pioneer walk, this time
to Moon, brought Jess Mullins in to score. Michaela Satter knocked
in the final Pioneer run of the inning, hitting a single to the
shortstop, bringing Relyea in.
PLU posted
two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 12-4 lead.
The Pioneers earned a run back in the bottom of the seventh with
Relyea crossing the plate on a JT Mullins single to left
center.
The
Pioneers return to action on March 22 when they head to Chapman,
Calif. to compete in the Sun West Tournament hosted by Chapman
College.
