TACOMA, Wash. – The Lewis & Clark
men's basketball team solidified the No. 4 spot in the
Northwest Conference play-offs, after defeating the Puget Sound
Loggers, 76-73, on Saturday night. The Pioneers will now travel to
Spokane, Wash. on Thursday, Feb. 25 to face the Whitworth Pirates
at 7 p.m. in the first round of the conference tournament.
The Pioneers end the regular season 10-14 overall and 9-7 in
conference play, while the Loggers finish9-16 overall and 5-11 in
the NWC.
Senior Tyler Tsukazaki led all players in points with 21, shooting
7-of-8 from the charity stripe and 4-of-6 from three point land.
Sophomore James Hollins scored 18 points, while Kyle Meeuwsen
finished with 13 and Josh Kollasch scored 12.
Colin Koach scored a team-high 19 points in the Loggers efforts,
while Nadav Heyman scored 11 points.
In the first half, the Loggers took the early lead as both teams
played a balanced first half, with the two sides swapping
possession of the lead 13 times. Puget Sound took a slim, 32-29,
lead into the half.
In the second half, the Pioneers began shooting mostly from beyond
the arc, which paid off in the end as they hit six of 11 to build
up a lead. The Loggers continued to challenge the Pios throughout
the half, but with more to fight for, the Pioneers dug deep to pull
out the 76-73 victory.
