PORTLAND, Ore. – Paced by 19 kills from
junior Margaret Dowling, the Lewis & Clark volleyball team
rolled past the visiting Whitman Missionaries 3-1 on Saturday night
in a Northwest Conference match. The Pioneers cruised to a 25-16,
25-14, 22-25, 25-19 win.
The Pioneers improve to 10-15 on the season and 6-9 in
conference play, while the Missionaries are now 8-17 overall and
5-10 in the NWC.
Dowling finished the night with a match-high 19 kills for a .357
hitting percentage. Senior Katherine Fiedler and sophomore Jennifer
Dowdy contributed nine kills to the Pio assault, while Gabby Hands
chipped in six.
Defensively, senior Lou Ohki had a match-high 22 digs, while
Dowling finished with eight. Sophomore Leia Matsunaga finished her
night with seven digs, while assisting her teammates a match-high
41 times. Both Fiedler and Hands had four blocks on the night,
while Alicia Callejo-Black had a block assist.
For the Missionaries, Jillian Davis was the go-to on offense,
knocking down 16 kills. Courtney Brewer finished her night with 11
kills for a .500 attacking percentage. Taylor Aschenbrenner had a
team-high 33 assists for Whitman.
Davis also led the Missionaries on defense, coming up with a
team-high 14 digs, while Becca Gotz had nine. Brewer led Whitman at
the net, finishing with two blocks. Aschenbrenner, Olivia Nielson
and Maddy Bell each had a block for the Missionaries.
The Pioneers wrap-up their season on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m.
in the Pamplin Sports Center when they host the Whitworth Pirates
on Senior Day.
