TACOMA, Wash. – After battling through
five sets, the Puget Sound Loggers defeated the Lewis & Clark
Pioneers 3-2 on Saturday night in a Northwest Conference volleyball
match-up in the Memorial Fieldhouse. The Loggers defeated the
Pioneers 25-20, 22-25, 15-25, 25-13, and 15-13.
With the loss the Pioneers fall to 9-14 on the season and 5-8 in
conference play, while the Loggers improve to 17-5 overall and 12-2
in the NWC.
Senior Katherine Fiedler led the Pioneers in kills with 13,
finishing the night with a .300 hitting percentage. Both Jenn Dowdy
and Alicia Callejo-Black chipped in 11 kills in the Pioneer
assault. Sophomore Leia Matsunaga set her teammates 48 times, while
Lou Ohki and Gabby Hands each had two assists.
Defensively for the Pioneers, Ohki had a team-high 27 digs.
Matsunaga finished her night with 16 digs, while Dowdy had 15 and
Margaret Dowling came up with 14. Callejo-Black had a strong night
at the net, finishing with a season high seven blocks for the
Pioneers. Fiedler was also solid at the net, finishing with five
block assists, while Dowling and Hands each had four assists.
Natalie Monro led all players in kills with 20, while Brynn
Blickenstaff had 15 kills for the Loggers. Erika Greene ended her
night with a match-high 49 assists. Stephanie O'Connor had a
good night serving for the Loggers, ending with five service aces
and just two errors. Juliette Witous had a match-high 29 digs.
Molly Gibson came up strong at the net for the Loggers, knocking
down five blocks.
The Pioneers return home next weekend to close out their season,
beginning with a match against the Whitman Missionaries on Friday,
Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. During the intermission between the second and
third sets the men's basketball, women's basketball,
and men's and women's swimming teams will be
introduced.
