Portland, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
Pioneers concluded homecoming Saturday with a close loss to the
Puget Sound Loggers. Puget Sound, now 5-1 in the Northwest
Conference, ended the night with scores of 25-18, 25-16, 23-25,
19-25 and 15-10.
The Pioneers are 3-3 in the NWC and 7-9 overall.
Senior Katherine
Fiedler led the Pioneers in kills with 13 while senior Lou Ohki
contributed 21 digs. Sophomore Leia Matsunaga
had a game high 36 assists.
Brynn Blickenstaff and Natalie Monro both finished with 16 kills
and Juliette Witous came out on top with 18 digs. The Loggers
dominated the court in blocks with a match high of 7.
Lewis & Clark worked hard in the first set keeping the score
close until serving errors got in the way. Jackie Harvey stood out
for the Loggers while Margaret
Dowling pulled in some points for the Pioneers ending the set
at 25-18.
The second set opened strong with serves from Matsunaga and a
back and forth scoring from the teams. The Pioneers put up points
with kills from Jennifer Dowdy
and Katherine Fiedler. Puget Sound took control of the set with a
kill from Natalie Munro and an ace from Jackie Harvey.
The Pioneers took back the match in the third and fourth sets
with kills from Alicia
Callejo-Black and Erika James.
Service and attacking errors killed the Loggers tonight and cost
them the 2 sets scoring 25-23 and 25-19 respectively.
Puget Sound came back in the fifth set scoring on Lewis &
Clark attacking errors and aces. Jackie Harvey finished the match
will a kill assisted by Erika Greene ending the set 15-10.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, Oct. 8 when they travel
to Walla Walla to face Whitman at 7 p.m.
