PORTLAND, Ore. – It was an exciting night
in the Pamplin Sports Complex for PAC(K) Pamplin as the Lewis &
Clark men's basketball team defeated the Puget Sound Loggers
85-82 in a Northwest Conference matchup. The Pioneer Athletic
Department, in conjunction with the Student-Athlete Advisory
Committee, also had a successful night, raising over $1,000 in two
days for relief efforts in Haiti.
The win moves the Pioneers into fifth place in the NWC, as they
move to 5-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play. The Loggers fall
to 7-10 on the season and 3-5 in the NWC.
The first half began with the two sides swapping possession of the
lead four times before Tyler Tsukazaki knocked down a three-pointer
with 12:09 to play in the half, to give the Pios a 16-14 lead. The
Loggers would tie the game once more before the Pioneers would
capture the lead for good with 6:47 to play, on a good jumper from
sophomore James Hollins. Another jumper from Hollins with 1:08 on
the clock sent the Pioneers into the half with a four point, 33-29,
advantage.
In the second half, the Loggers found a way to recapture the lead,
using back-to-back three-pointers from Bryce Levin and Nadav Heyman
to go up by two, 41-39, with 15:43 to play. The two sides kept it
close over the next six minutes, before the Pios went up by four,
62-58, on back-to-back free throws from Kelly Edwards. The Pioneers
would run up a seven point lead with 1:00 remaining in the contest,
when a foul from Kaleb Shelton sent Josh Kollasch to the charity
stripe, where he buried both of his shots. The Loggers tried to
fight their way back into the game in the final seconds of the
contest, but it would be the Pioneers who picked up the 85-82
victory.
Edwards ended with a game-high 22 points for the Pioneers, while
Hollins scored 15 and PJ Taylor contributed 14. Kollasch led the
team in rebounds, grabbing six boards, while Edwards pulled down
five.
Heyman and Conner Gehring led the Loggers with 15 points, while
Levin and Shelton scored 13 points.
The Pioneers hit the road for their next contest, as they begin
the second half of the conference season against Whitman on Friday,
