PORTLAND, Ore. – In a battle for positioning
a top the Northwest Conference standings, it was the George Fox
Bruins who had the edge, defeating the Lewis & Clark
women's basketball team, 40-24, in the lowest scoring game
for both teams this season. The win gives the Bruins sole
possession of first place in conference play as they remain
undefeated, while the Pioneers are now tied with the Puget Sound
Loggers for second place.
The Pioneers fall to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while
the Bruins are now 14-2 on the season and 7-0 in the NWC.
Megan Spence led the Pioneers in scoring, posting eight points
while coming down with six rebounds. Sophomore Margaret Dowling led
all players in rebounds, grabbing a game-high 11 boards, seven of
which came on the defensive end.
The Bruins received a solid effort from Keisha Gordon who scored a
game-high 14 points, while picking up eight defensive boards. Elise
Kuenzi contributed 10 points to the Bruins offensive, finishing
6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
The two sides matched each other off the boards, with the Pioneers
earning a 49-48 edge in rebounding. The Pios grabbed 31 defensive
rebounds, while picking up 18 on the offensive end. George Fox had
the edge in defensive rebounds, grabbing 38, while earning 10
offensive rebounds.
The Pioneers will look to get their offense going in their next
outing, as they take on the Loggers on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
in a battle of one loss teams in the NWC.
