PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball
team defeated the Whitman Missionaries 3-1 on Saturday in Northwest
Conference action. The Pioneers took set one 25-20, before the
Missionaries bounced back to win set two 25-23. The Pioneers made
quick work of the Missionaries in the final two sets winning 25-17
and 25-19.
Senior Sarah Hall and freshman Jennifer Dowdy led the Pioneer
attack, each putting down 14 kills. Dowdy had a team-best .312
hitting percentage, while also contributing three digs and one
block. Freshman setter Leia Matsunaga had a game-high 50 assists as
well as a game-high 17 digs. Libero Lou Ohki contributed 14 digs on
the night.
After falling in the second set, the Pioneers bounced back to put
up their best team attacking percentage of the night in set three.
The Pioneers produced 11 kills on 29 attempts, while only
committing two errors to hit .310.
Alex Graves led the Missionaries in kills with 17, while Katie
Richards ended her night with 36 assists. Graves also had a
team-high 14 digs for Whitman.
The Pioneers return to the court on Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
when they host Northwest Conference opponent Pacific (Ore.) in the
Pamplin Sports Complex.
