PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark volleyball team began Northwest Conference play at home with a strong 3-0 win over Whitworth on Friday evening.

The Pioneers opened the match with a 25-14 win in set one, and then zipped through the final two, winning by scores of 25-15 and 25-21.

“I thought we did a great job controlling the tempo,” said Head Coach Lori Jepsen. “We came out and executed our game plan and were able to control the game by doing so. It's always nice to get a conference win and especially in front of your home crowd.”

Senior middle hitter Jessamy Holland paced the Pioneers
attack with 10 kills in the match. Holland finished with a team-high .562 hitting percentage, along with four blocks. Junior libero Lou Ohki led the team with 14 digs, while freshman setter Leia Matsunaga contributed 32 assists.

The first set belonged entirely to the Pioneers who posted a .571 team hitting percentage, while failing to commit an error.

The Pirates offense was led by Kaimi Rocha who ended her night with 11 kills, while Bree Riddle added 18 assists. Jordon Hoffnagle had a game-high 15 digs.

The Pioneers improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, while the Pirates fall to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in NWC action.
