PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
softball team honored departing seniors Laura Parker and Sheree
Miura prior to the start of its Northwest Conference doubleheader
with Pacific Lutheran. The Lutes earned a 9-0 victory in game,
before coming back to win game two 11-3.
The Lutes managed to hold the Pioneers to just one hit, with
Caitlin Relyea earning the hit while starting in right field.
Pacific Lutheran put up three runs in the top of the first inning,
before collecting two more in the second for a 5-0 advantage.
Amber Roberts scored the Lutes first run of the game, after leading
off the first inning with a single through the left side. Roberts
ended the day hitting 1-4, while scoring three of the Lutes runs.
The Pios held the Lutes scoreless through the next two innings,
before PLU scored four more in the sixth inning. L&C tried to
earn some runs back in the bottom of the sixth, but would not
manage to close the gap ending the game.
PLU once again managed to score in the first inning of the game,
this time putting up two runs at the start of game two. The Lutes
had a 3-0 advantage before the Pioneers earned a run back in the
bottom of the fourth. Parker came around to score the Pio run,
after reaching base on a bunt. Gabby Castro picked up the RBI on
the play with a well hit ball to left center.
Stacey Hagensen put the Lutes up 6-1 in the top of the next inning,
hitting a home run to dead center. Both Roberts and Caitlin Brown
came around to score on the homer, after Roberts led off with a
double and Brown reached on a walk. Melissa Natwick scored another
Lute run, this time in the top of the sixth to give her team a 7-1
advantage.
The Pioneers answered back in the bottom of the inning, with a two
RBI double from Jamie Moon. Moon nailed a shot down the right side,
which allowed Caroline DeVincenzi and Paige McFeeley to score. PLU
earned both of those runs back in the following inning, scoring
three runs to seal the victory.
The Pioneers close out their season on Sunday, April 26 with a
doubleheader at the Houston Sports Complex against Dallas. Game
time is set for noon.
