GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark softball team
dropped two Northwest Conference games to Puget Sound on Saturday
afternoon at the Houston Sports Complex. The Loggers earned a 9-0
victory in game one, before taking game two by the score of 10-3.
UPS improves to 12-21 on the season and 6-14 in the NWC, while the
Pioneers are now 3-33 overall and 3-23 in conference play.
The Loggers made quick work of the Pioneers in game one, putting
up five runs in the second inning of action, starting with a bases
loaded walk. A double from Megan Janes moments later cleared the
bases for the Loggers, bringing in three more runs. A
fielder's choice ended the scoring for UPS.
Two more runs in the top of the third inning, made the game 7-0
Loggers before the team tacked on two more in the final inning of
play. The Loggers outhit the Pios 10-2 in the game, with both of
the Pio hits coming from junior Jessica Mullins.
UPS continued to keep its bats going in game two, while also
starting the game off with some help from the Pios. Janes led off
the game with a shot to the shortstop that allowed her to reach
base. She would come around to score a little bit later with
another member of the Loggers, for an early 2-0 lead. UPS jumped to
a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, before the Pioneers made
a comeback in the bottom of the inning.
Jamie Moon made the score 3-1 Loggers, scoring Sheree Miura from
second base. Mullins cranked out her seventh home run of the
season, with a shot over the fence in dead center. The home run
brought in both herself and Moon to tie the game at 3-3.
The Loggers would regain the lead in the fifth inning with a home
run of their own. UPS then went onto score six more runs in the
final two innings of play.
The Pioneers return to the Houston Sports Complex on Sunday,
April 19 as they host Pacific Lutheran in a NWC matchup. Seniors
Laura Parker and Sheree Miura will be honored prior to the start of
the game, for their constant dedication to the Pioneer softball
team.
