GAME ONE
GAME TWO
PORTLAND, Ore. – The sun shined on the Lewis
& Clark softball team on Thursday afternoon as the Pioneers
picked up two Northwest Conference wins over visiting George Fox.
This marks the third time this season that the Pioneers have gotten
the better of the Bruins, taking down George Fox earlier in the
season. This time around the Pios wasted no time getting to work,
defeating the Bruins 9-6 in game one before run ruling their
opponent 14-6 in game two.
George Fox picked up an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first
inning when their cleanup hitter, Chelsea Bradley, nailed a two run
shot over the right center portion of the fence. Caroline
DeVincenzi earned the run back for L&C in the bottom of the
inning, coming around to score on a single by Danielle Blechert.
DeVincenzi led off the inning with a single to third base.
The Bruins jumped to a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth, scoring
two runs in the third inning before posting another in the fifth.
The Pioneers answered back with five huge runs in the bottom of the
fifth to take the lead for the first time in the game. The Bruins
helped the Pios out, allowing the leadoff batter on base with an
error credited to the third baseman.
Kristin Breninger, who led off the inning, came around to score
moments later on a single by Jamie Moon. The Pios would continue to
play small ball, collecting five singles in the inning while
walking twice. Jessica Mullins would make the game 8-5 Pios in the
sixth inning, hitting her team-leading sixth home run of the
season. Moon would also come around to score on the play after
leading off the inning with a single. Lewis & Clark would tack
on one more run before the inning was over with Blechert
scoring.
George Fox was able to get one more run across before the end of
the game, handing the Pios a 9-6 win. Paige McFeeley picked up the
complete game win, striking out five Bruin batters.
The Pioneers started strong in game two, putting up four runs in
the first two innings. Both Blechert and Jessica Mullins came
around to score in the first inning on a double to left by Caitlin
Relyea. Relyea would account for the teams third run of the inning
with a single by Sara Standish.
Mullins picked up her first RBI of the game in the second inning,
doubling to right field, which sent Breninger home from third. The
Bruins managed to earn all four runs back in the top of the next
inning with a three-run home run from Shelby Briske. Audrey Dove
scored the other run for the Bruins after reaching on a single.
Laura Parker put the Pios back on top in the bottom of the inning,
coming around to score after leading off with a single. L&C
would go up 6-4 moments later with Breninger once again touching
home.
George Fox earned one run back in the top of the fourth, before
allowing the Pios to go on the offensive. The Pioneers got down to
business in the bottom half of the inning, putting up five runs on
six hits. The Pios would be facing two outs before scoring their
runs, buckling down and sending Sheree Miura and Gabby Castro home
to start the run production. Breninger would again score, as would
DeVincenzi and Moon.
The Bruins scored one more run in the sixth inning, but it would
not be enough to hold off the Pios who produced three more runs in
the bottom of the inning.
McFeeley once again picked up the win.
The Pioneers return to the Houston Sports Complex on Saturday,
April 18 to take on Pacific Lutheran at 12 p.m.
