GAME ONE
GAME TWO
SALEM, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark softball
team finally got in its doubleheader against Willamette after
having it previously postponed due to rain. The Bearcats got the
better of the Pioneers, winning game one 8-0 before taking game two
12-0.
The Pioneers fell behind early in game one and were never able to
dig themselves out of the hole they found themselves in. The Pios
best scoring opportunity came in the top of the sixth inning when
they loaded the bases on two separate instances. Despite the
outstanding scoring opportunity, the Willamette defense buckled
down and retired the rest of the L&C batters.
Game two saw Willamette earn another victory, after just two
innings of run production. The Bearcats scored all 12 of their runs
in the second and third inning of play, holding the Pios to just
two hits.
Both of the Pioneers hits came in the fourth inning, beginning with
a lead off single that found its way up the middle by Caitlin
Relyea. Relyea moved to second on a grounder to the pitcher by
teammate Danielle Blechert, putting the first Pio runner in scoring
position. That would be as close as any member of the Pios would
get to scoring, as Relyea was retired on the following play.
Lewis & Clark returns to action on Friday, April 4 at 12 p.m.
at the Houston Sports Complex as they host Willamette in a rematch
of this contest.
