Game One
Game Two
(through three innings)
PORTLAND, Ore., - Bad weather continues to hinder
the Lewis & Clark athletics programs, as the Pioneer softball
team was forced to postpone game two of their home opening
double-header against Corban College. The game was called at
the start of the fourth inning of action at the Houston Sports
Complex on Wednesday afternoon. The two sides were able to squeeze
in game one, with the Warriors collecting an 11-1 win, handing the
Pios their first loss of the season.
Prior to the cancelation of game two the Pioneers were looking to
pull themselves out of a 6-2 deficit. The Warriors put up four runs
in the first inning of play, including two home runs. Caroline
DeVinceni earned one run back for the Pioneers in the bottom of the
inning after getting on base with a lead-off single. Laura Parker
would drive DeVinceni home, while advancing Sarah Standish to
third. A Jessica Mullins double down the right field line would
bring Standish across the plate for the second run.
Corban would pick up two more runs in the third inning to increase
their lead to 6-2, which is where the score will stand until next
week.
The first game would be all Warriors, with the team scoring in
four of the seven innings played. The Pioneers would get one run
across the plate in the fifth inning, with DeVinceni driving home
Danielle Blechert on a double to left field. That would be all the
offense the Pios would be able to muster up, as the Warriors
cruised to an 11-1 win.
The Pioneers return to action this weekend, as they open
conference play on Saturday, March 7 at Puget Sound, in a Northwest
Conference double-header. The first pitch is set to be thrown at 12
p.m. in Tacoma, Wash.
