GAME ONE
GAME TWO
FOREST GROVE, Ore. – In a rematch of its
doubleheader over the weekend, the Lewis & Clark softball team
once again fell victim to the strong Pacific Boxer defense. The
Boxers took game one 9-0, before getting their bats going in game
two to win 19-0.
The Pioneers collected their first hit of game one in the first
inning of action, with Jamie Moon leading off the inning with a
single to the shortstop. Moon would make her way to second base on
a ground out by Danielle Blechert, but that would be as close as
the Pios would come to scoring in the inning.
Moon collected the Pios other hit in the game, finding the gap in
right center and legging out a double. Caitlin Relyea found her way
onto base moments later after being hit by the Boxer pitcher.
Pacific would put itself in an uncomfortable position with the next
Pio batter, walking Blechert to load the bases. Despite the ideal
scoring situation, the Pioneers would not be able to squeeze out a
run as the Pacific pitcher buckled down to retire the next two
batters.
The Boxers composed themselves in the bottom of the inning to score
three runs. Pacific would go onto post five more runs in the
following two innings to take the game 8-0.
Pacific kept its bats going into the second game, putting up seven
runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Pioneers tried to grab
the early lead, collecting both of their hits in the top of the
inning, with Moon once again leading off the game with a single to
the shortstop. Carolina DeVincenzi followed Moon's lead,
singling to the Boxer second baseman and advancing Moon to second.
That would be as close as the Pioneers would come to scoring, as
the Pacific pitching staff made it impossible for the Pios to get
their bats going.
Lewis & Clark fell behind 9-0 in the bottom of the third inning
with the Boxers scoring two more runs. Pacific ended things in the
bottom of the fourth inning plating 10 runs to complete their 19-0
win.
The Pioneers return to action on Wednesday, April 1 against
Willamette on the road at 2 p.m.
