PORTLAND, Ore. – Playing at the Houston
Sports Complex due to Pacific University's weather torn field
in Forest Grove, the Lewis & Clark softball team posed as the
visiting team in its doubleheader on Sunday, March 29. The Boxers
got the best of the Pios in both games, edging out L&C 6-3 in
game one before grabbing an 8-0 win in game two. The two teams will
continue their series on Monday, March 30 at Pacific with the first
game set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
The Pios fell behind early in game one, with the Boxers collecting
all six runs by the fourth inning. Lewis & Clark made a strong
surge for a come from behind victory in the top of the fifth,
cutting the Pacific lead in half.
Jamie Moon got things going for the Pioneers, leading off the fifth
inning with a single to left field before advancing to second on a
wild pitch. Moon would conclude her trek around the bases with a
deep home run from catcher Jessica Mullins. Mullins blast went
flying over the fence in left center, bringing in both Moon and
Danielle Blechert who reached base after being hit by the Pacific
pitcher.
Moon ended game one hitting 2-3 and contributing one run, while
Mullins finished 1-2 walking two times.
The Pioneers made good contact with the ball in game two of the
doubleheader, but were unable to find anything but the gloves of
the opposition. Kristin Breninger collected the Pios lone hit of
the game with a single to the first baseman.
The Pioneers will get another chance at the Boxers on Monday,
heading to Forest Grove for two more games against their Northwest
Conference opponents.
