GAME ONE
GAME TWO
WHITTIER, Calif. – Three first inning runs
against Whittier College on Thursday, March 26 proved to not be
enough to lift the Lewis & Clark softball team to a victory in
game one of its doubleheader, as the Pioneers fell 12-4. The Poets
also managed to earn an 8-0 victory in game two.
Jessica Mullins gave the Pioneers a three run lead in the first
inning of action, nailing a shot over the fence in right center.
Mullins home run brought in teammates Caroline DeVincenzi, who led
off the inning with a walk, and Danielle Blechert who singled to
right field.
The Poets answered back with six runs of their own in the bottom of
the inning, which included three home runs. Whittier would not look
back after capturing the lead, scoring three more runs in the
bottom of the second to take a 9-3 advantage.
The Pioneers would earn their final run of the game in the top of
the third, with a lead-off home run from Jamie Moon. Lewis &
Clark would try diligently to catch-up to the Poets but would be
unable to overcome the run deficit, falling 12-4 after Whittier
scored three more runs.
Whittier's strong pitching proved to be the difference maker
in the second game, as the Pioneers were held hitless. The Pios
best scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning of action, with
DeVincenzi advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Moon.
The Poets would score their runs in the bottom of the second and
fourth innings, guiding them to an 8-0 win.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 28 as they remain
on the road resuming Northwest Conference action, taking on Pacific
(Ore.).
