GAME ONE
GAME TWO
NEWBERG, Ore. – A three-run home run from
Danielle Blechert in the first inning of game two of the Lewis
& Clark softball doubleheader with George Fox set the stage for
the 6-5 win. The Pioneers, who dropped game one of the series 1-0,
bounced back in the nightcap, scoring six runs on just nine hits
for their first win of the season.
Game one proved to be a defensive battle with neither team
able to get on the board for the first thee and a half innings. The
Bruins eventually pulled out a run in the bottom of the third
inning, which would prove to be the game-winning run.
The Bruins started game two by putting Caroline
DeVincenzi, the Pios lead–off batter, on base after hitting
her with a pitch. With DeVincenzi on first, Jamie Moon came to
the plate blasting one to the outfield, legging out a double and
advancing her teammate to third. Moon's double would be
followed up with Blechert's rocket over the fence.
George Fox responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run
home run of its own, cutting the lead to one. Neither team
would score again until the sixth inning, when the Pioneers scored
three runs on three hits. With two outs, Blechert got on base with
a single, followed by a single from Jessica Mullins before an error
allowed Laura Parker to reach base. With the bases juiced, Sheree
Muira came to the plate, nailing the ball to the fence for a base
clearing triple.
The Bruins earned those three runs back in the bottom of the sixth,
but would not be able to earn one more run in the
seventh, earning the Pios a victory.
Paige McFeeley picked up the complete game win for the Pioneers,
striking out six batters.
Lewis & Clark returns home for its next game, hosting George
Fox in doubleheader action on Sunday, March 22 at 12 p.m. at the
Houston Sports Complex.
