(continuation from March 4)
Game Three
Game Four
SALEM, Ore., - In the continuation of the Lewis
& Clark softball game from March 4 with Corban College, the
Warriors managed to put up four more runs to take game two of the
series 10-4. The Pioneers and Warriors then battled in games three
and four of the series, with Corban taking the games 11-2 and 10-2.
The Pioneers fall to 0-8 on the season, while the Warriors improve
to 10-8.
The conclusion of game two picked up in the top of the fourth
inning with Corban up to bat, leading the Pioneers 6-2. The
Warriors would start the game by sending one more runner home,
before posting three additional runs in the fifth inning. The
Pioneers would get two runs in the fourth inning, as Jessica
Mullins came around to score on a wild pitch after reaching on a
double to left center. Sheree Muira would score the Pios other run,
but it would not be enough to overcome the 10 Warrior runs.
Caroline DeVincenzi got things started for the Pioneers in game
three, coming home to score in the first inning of action after
leading off the inning with a walk. Warrior pitching would help the
Pioneer's cause, advancing DeVincenzi to second on a wild
pitch followed later by a walk to Laura Parker that allowed
DeVincenzi to cross the plate.
The Warriors would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of
the inning, before collecting 10 runs in the following three
innings. The Pioneers would make one last surge to win the game in
the top of the fifth inning, sending one more runner across home,
but would once again fall victim to the Warrior's
offense.
Corban jumped out to a six run lead in the final game of the
series, before the Pioneers responded in the top of the fifth
inning with two runs of their own. Jamie Moon led things off for
the Pios with a single up the middle before advancing to second on
a wild pitch. Muira followed Moon's lead, singling to the
shortstop and helping Moon move to third. Another wild pitch by the
Warriors would cost them a run, sending Moon across the plate. The
Pioneers second run would come on a DeVincenzi RBI, with the
shortstop singling to center allowing Michaela Satter to come home.
The runs would not be enough with the Warriors putting up four more
runs in the bottom of the inning for a 10-2 win.
The Pioneers return to the diamond on Saturday, March 14 with two
games on the road against Northwest Conference opponent Willamette.
The first pitch is set for 12 p.m.
