PORTLAND, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark
volleyball team was defeated by Corban College by a score of 3-1 on
Tuesday evening at the Pamplin Sports Complex. The Pioneers fall to
9-6 on the season, while the Warriors improve to 6-12 overall.
The Warriors came out strong and took a 1-0 lead by winning the
first set by a score of 25-23. The Pioneers battled in the second
game, bouncing back to win the set 25-17.
The third set belonged to the Warriors posting a final score
of 25-18, giving them a 2-1 advantage. The final set proved to be a
back and forth battle with the Pioneers trying to extend the match
to five games. The Warriors had different plans, putting the set
away with a final score of 25-23.
Sophomore middle hitter Margaret Dowling led the Pioneers with 20
kills and seven digs, while freshman setter Leia Matsunaga ended
the night with 37 assists.
Morgan Hirzl led the Warriors in kills with 13, while Megan Dees
added 26 assists.
The Pioneers return to the court on Friday, Oct. 9 for a very
important Northwest Conference match-up against Pacific Lutheran.
With a win the Pioneers will end PLU's conference winning
streak, while also moving into a two-way tie with the Lutes for
first place in the conference. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
in Tacoma.
