Volleyball Over Powers Pacific In 3-0 Victory

BOX SCORE

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Lewis & Clark volleyball team defeated the Pacific Boxers with ease on Saturday night, taking the Boxers down in three straight sets, 25-14, 25-9, 25-17, in Northwest Conference volleyball action.

The Pioneers did not allow the Boxers to find any offensive rhythm, allowing them to hit just .029 on the night. The Boxers fall to 7-15 overall and just 2-12 in the NWC, while the Pioneers improve to 13-10 on the season and 9-5 in the conference, which keeps them in sole possession of fourth place in the NWC.

The Pioneers made sure to never trail in the first set, running out to an early 14-4 lead courtesy of a kill by Jessamy Holland. A service ace by freshman Jennifer Dowdy made the score 21-11 Pioneers, while a service error by the Boxers sealed the 25-14 win for the Pioneers.

The second set was all Pioneers, with the team displaying why they are one of the Northwest Conference's top teams. The squad pulled away from a 1-1 tie to score 17 of the next 18 points in the set. The Pios earned six points off of serves by Holland, which included two kills from Dowdy for a 6-1 lead. Sophomore Margaret Dowling strung together 11 more points on serves for the Pios, four of which were off service aces, to surge to a dominating 17-2 advantage. The Pioneers would eventually cruise to the 25-9 win.

The third and final set started different that the first two, with the Boxers opening with a 7-4 lead on L&C attack errors. Pacific eventually ran up a 14-8 advantage before the Pioneers began their comeback. The Pios, led by Sarah Hall, cut the lead to 17-15, before winning the next 10 points to close out the match.

Holland's, who was the only player with double digit kills, led the Pioneers with 10 kills. Freshman setter Leia Matsunaga led the Pios with 31 assists, while Hall had 12 digs.

Kelsy Takashima, Alexa Block and Keleigh Kremers each had six kills for the Boxers, while Jade Thompson added 15 digs.

The Pioneers return home for their next contest, hosting Linfield on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Pamplin Sports Complex.
