Volleyball Knocks off Whitman in Four Sets

WALLA WALLA, Wash. –
The Lewis & Clark women's volleyball team defeated the Whitman College Missionaries in four sets, 3-1, to move into a two-way tie for third place in the Northwest Conference. The Pioneers defeated the Missionaries 25-11, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22.

The Pioneers move to 11-9 on the season, 7-4 in NWC play, while the Missionaries fall to 4-13 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

The Pioneers showed their dominance by coming out strong in the first set, taking a 1-0 lead, winning by a final score of 25-11. The Missionaries battled in the second game, bouncing back to win the set 25-22.

The third set belonged to the Pioneers posting a final score of 25-19, giving them a 2-1 advantage. The final set proved to be a back and forth battle with the Pioneers knocking off their NWC foe 25-22.

Sophomore middle hitter Margaret Dowling led the Pioneers in kills with 15, while freshman setter Leia Matsunaga ended the night with 42 assists.

The Pioneers return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 24 when they play Whitworth University at 5 p.m. on the road.
