PORTLAND, Ore. - The Lewis & Clark volleyball
team took out the Pacific Boxers in four sets on Friday night in
Pamplin Sports Complex. The victory helps the Pioneers improve to
8-5 overall and 4-1 in the Northwest Conference, while the Boxers
fall to 6-7 on the season and 1-4 in conference action.
The Pioneers breezed to victory in the first set taking down the
Boxers 25-10. Pacific was able to regroup in the second set earning
a hard fought 25-21 victory. After dropping the second set the
Pioneers wasted no time getting to business, taking the third set
25-12 and fourth set 25-16.
Senior Sarah Hall led the Pioneers in kills with 10, while junior
Katherine Fiedler contributed nine. Freshman setter Leia Matsunaga
added to the Pioneers offensive charge, assisting her teammates 34
times. Libero Lou Ohki led the team in digs with 14 on the night,
while Jessamy Holland, Margaret Dowling and Matsunaga each had
10.
Kelsy Takashima of Pacific ended with a game-high 12 kills, while
teammate Jade Thompson led both teams in digs with 19. Brittney
Johnson had a team-high 26 assists for the Boxers.
After dropping the second set the Pioneers were able to bounce back
offensively, increasing their hitting percentage in the final two
sets. The Pioneers put down 16 kills in set four, while only
committing seven errors.
The Pioneers hit the road for their next contest, playing
Willamette on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in Northwest Conference
action.
